June 9: RHP Michel Otañez selected from Triple-A Las Vegas; LHP optioned
In need of a fresh bullpen arm after O’Loughlin worked 3 1/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Blue Jays, the A’s called up Otañez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday for what will be his Major League debut once he pitches. The right-hander earned the promotion after posting a 3.99 ERA in 22 relief appearances in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, with 45 strikeouts and 15 walks across 29 1/3 innings for Las Vegas. Otañez brings a fastball that has frequently been clocked at triple digits in the Minors along with a sinker-slider combo as his three-pitch mix.

To create a 40-man roster spot, the A’s transferred left-hander Alex Wood to the 60-day injured list.
